Wall Images Empty RE: Rebuilding the side panels with longer photo prints?

Post  Landroids Wed Aug 18, 2010 4:24 pm

Our team has just received the new & longer Moonbots photo prints for the side panels (8/18/10 3:00 PM EST).

Unfortunately, now the cardboards are too short for the photos. Also, we are running out of time to air out the paint smell and remount each panels. At this time, we would like to proceed to capture an image of the "Heritage Artifacts" as currently located without remounting the side panels. Right now, we have the right and left panel edges lined up with the open edge of the play field. The two inside corner gaps are filled with black construction papers.

See http://www.landroids.org/lunar/wp-content/uploads/2010/07/Moonbot-Field-1.jpg

Are there any teams who are going to remount the side panels? Like to hear from you all on what your teams will do. Thanks.

I think the problem is 6 base plates in a row is 2.3m not 2.2m like the game overview sheet states, the wall images are 2.2m long, therefore they are 10cm/3in short. Perhaps the wall images are supposed to be setup on top of the base plates rather than at the edge.

Wall Images Empty Cougars building the field walls

Post  CougarRobotCoach Mon Jul 19, 2010 6:52 pm

We have posted pictures of how we built our walls and how we dealt with the graphics being shorter than the sides of the field. We saw they were short and figured we just needed to deal with it. There's not a lot of time left so we need to deal with it and since we are each competing on our own fields the fact that each of us deal with it a bit differently shouldn't adversely affect the competition.

Wall Images Empty All 3

Post  CougarRobotCoach Mon Jul 19, 2010 6:24 pm

All 3 panels are short by about 3 inches. It's just something we'll all have to deal with. I'll post pictures and post again as soon as I do. I am working on it now and should have them up in about 15 to 30 minutes.

So is it just Panel 2 (The one with the Earth) that's short? Or are the others short as well?

Wall Images Empty Walls...

Post  Will-LegoAces Mon Jul 19, 2010 5:28 pm

If everyone has the error, it is safe to say that either:
1. MoonBots meant it that way
2. They will alter the judging to compensate, so that they do not have to resend everything, or offer some sort of solution to make it all the same
Also, there is an FAQ on the MoonBots website, which might offer information-like the one in FLL-about setup.

This weekend we built a frame of 1x8's and 1x3's the size of each side of the field. We then centered the cardboard on the frames and stapled it down. We then glued the wall graphics to the walls. The wall graphics were indeed about 3 inches shorter than the sides of the field. We centered the back wall graphic on the back wall. We mounted the side wall graphics flush with the back wall (leaving them short on the front of the field). Before gluing down the wall graphics we spray painted the portions of the walls that would not be covered with wall graphics a flat black so that they didn't stand out too much. This gave us sturdy walls which should be good both for touch sensors and proximity sensors. We will be posting pictures of our wall building tonight (cougarrobot.com).

Best Regards,
Jamie

Do you mean 3 inches shorter than the back side of the Challenge Field?

Our wall image of Earth is about 3 inches shorter than the side of the table, is any one else having this problem, are the walls supposed to be shorter?
